Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Olympia Chimney Flue Liner Replacement: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

An Olympia Chimney flue liner replacement in Fort Worth typically costs $1,850 to $3,400 installed, depending on liner length, diameter, and whether the old liner comes out clean or fights us the whole way. We stock Olympia-compatible stainless steel liners on our trucks, so most Fort Worth jobs are done in a single visit. The way owners usually find out their liner has failed isn’t dramatic. It starts with a musty smell in the living room after rain, or a small pile of rusty flakes at the bottom of the firebox, or a chimney sweep (maybe us, maybe someone else) runs a camera up the flue and shows you a photo of a seam that’s split wide open.

Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To

Olympia Chimney makes two main product lines that show up in Fort Worth homes: their stainless steel rigid liner systems (usually found in newer construction and recent relines) and their flexible liner kits used for retrofitting older masonry chimneys. The flexible kits are the ones we replace most often. They come in 4″, 5″, 5.5″, 6″, 7″, and 8″ diameters, and the 6″ and 8″ sizes cover probably 85% of what we see here.

The quick way to identify what you’ve got: open the damper and look for a metal tag riveted to the liner near the top of the firebox. If the tag is gone (which happens), measure the inside diameter of the flue opening. If you’re not sure, one of us can tell you in about 30 seconds with a tape measure and a flashlight. Olympia Chimney no longer warrants its older Smoothwall 304 liners, which is the lineup we replace most in Fort Worth.

OEM vs. aftermarket: Olympia-branded liners are solid, and we install them when the warranty matters to the homeowner. But in most cases, a 316L stainless liner from DuraFlex or Copperfield meets or exceeds the same UL 1777 spec at a lower price. We’ll show you both options with real prices and let you decide. Hadley Chimney Fort Worth is an independent service company, not affiliated with Olympia Chimney, so our recommendation is based on what actually holds up, not what a brand rep tells us to push.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • Rust flakes in the firebox or on the smoke shelf. Your liner is stainless steel, but “stainless” isn’t stain-proof forever. The 304 alloy used in older Olympia liners breaks down after years of wet flue gas and Fort Worth’s humidity swings. Flakes mean the liner wall is thinning.
  • A smell like a damp campfire after it rains. Water is getting into the flue and mixing with creosote (the flammable tar that builds up from wood smoke). That smell means moisture is reaching the liner’s interior, and a split or pinhole is usually the entry point.
  • Visible gaps or separation at the liner seams near the top. The seam is where heat stress hits hardest. If you or a tech can see daylight through a seam from the roof, that’s a fire-code problem, not a cosmetic one.
  • White or gray staining on the chimney exterior brick. That’s efflorescence (mineral salts pulled out by water). It tells you water has been traveling through the flue and out through the masonry, which means the liner is no longer containing what it should.
  • Your chimney sweep flags it on camera. This is how the majority of Fort Worth homeowners find out. We put a camera up and you see the split, the corrosion, the rust-through spot, with your own eyes.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full flue liner replacement in Fort Worth runs $1,850 to $3,400 for most single-story homes. A two-story house in the Fairmount district or a newer build out toward Benbrook can push toward $3,800 when we need taller scaffolding and more liner length. Here’s how that breaks down:

  • Liner material (6″ flexible 316L stainless): $450 to $800 depending on length
  • Removal of the old liner: $200 to $450 (corroded liners fight back)
  • Installation and sealing: $800 to $1,400
  • Top plate, rain cap, and connector: $150 to $300
  • Camera inspection and written report: $150 to $250 (we show you photos before we quote, and again after we finish)

Every flue liner replacement from Hadley Chimney Fort Worth includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise: a written guarantee on the repair, and if anything fails within a year, the second visit is free. That’s not an upsell, it’s just how we’ve done business since 2003. We also give you a written price before any work starts, so there’s no version of this where the number changes once someone’s on your roof.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the firebox for rust flakes and look for efflorescence on the brick yourself. You should not attempt a flue liner replacement on your own. This job involves working on a roof, dropping a metal liner 20 to 35 feet down a masonry flue, connecting it at the appliance, and sealing the top correctly. A liner that isn’t properly sealed at the top lets carbon monoxide back into the house instead of out the chimney. That’s not a “watch a YouTube video and give it a shot” situation. Cory Mitchell and our crew have been doing this work across Fort Worth since before most of the newer homes out toward Walsh Ranch even existed. If you want to know whether you actually need a new liner, call us at (682) 900-6393. I’d rather show you a photo of the problem than hand you a bill you don’t understand.
